Employee Consultation

AFGE Local Union 424 is happy to meet individually with employees to discuss all concerns. We support employees by adhering to the Master Agreement between the Union and Department which you can find via the link below.

Proposed Disciplinary Action

Using the Master Agreement and evidence provided by employees Union Representatives will walk you through the process of facing a disciplinary action.

Grievances/Mediation

AFGE will arrange a formal meeting with management and HR along with the presence of employee to represent you through every step of grievance process. 

 

AFGE will assist in MEDIATION which is a process or intervention between parties to promote reconciliation, settlement, or compromise.

Weingarten Rights

Employees do not have to be alone when they are question by an employer in a situation that might result in discipline.

 

An employees right to representation in investigatory or pre- disciplinary meetings was established in a 1957 Unites States Supreme Court Decision.

 

If you have believe that your responses might result in discipline you have the right to union representation!

Performance Appraisals 

Evaluations are done between October 1st - September 1st
Evaluations must be given to employee with 60 calendar days ( October 31st)

Grievance 

We will represent you throughout the entire grievance process:

Step 1
Union/Employee have 30 days from time of receipt to file a grievance
RMO (Responsible Management Official) must meet and provide response with 14 calendar days

Step 2
Union/Employee have 7 calendar days to file a step 2 after receiving Step 1 response
RMO must meet and provide answer within 10 calendar days of receipt of step 2 grievance 

Step 3
Union/Employee have 7 calendar days of receipt of step 2 response from RMO to file a step 3 grievance
Director/RMO must meet and provide response within 7 calendar days of receipt   

Proposed Admonishments & Reprimands

Department must issue 14 days advanced noticed to employee Employee will have up to 8 hours for meetings with union to discuss case Union has 14 calendar days to respond orally or in writing

Proposed Suspensions, Adverse actions

Department must issue 30 days advanced written notice to employee
Employee will have up to 8 hours for meetings with union to discuss case
Union has 14 calendar days to respond orally or in writing.
