Memorandum
AFGE UNION LOCAL 424
Date: January 2, 2024
From: Union President Mr. James M. White Sr.
Subject: Union Dues Adjustment
To: Union Members
Dear Employees,
This letter is to inform you that all of Union Local 424 member’s dues will be adjusted to reflect $21.00 biweekly in February 2024. Dues have not been raised since 2016. Due to increase of costs, we must execute a modest increase of dues in order to keep up with the per capita that we MUST pay to the AFLCIO, the AFGE National, and the National Veterans Affairs Council, along with other operational expenses of our Local.
With a portion of your dues, we pay $20.91 to the AFGE National monthly for each member. The National assists in all Locals being self-sufficient and operating effectively, as required by law, the AFGE National Constitution, and AFGE policies. Too, Local 424 is part of the AFL-CIO which we pay a “per capita tax” per member monthly to contribute to national labor political work and education. Another part of the dues is waged to the National Veterans Affairs Council which advocates for the Locals on a larger scale. Lastly, Union operations, Union staff, contract negotiations, arbitrations, enforcements, and a range of needs like administration, communications, new organizing, and member trainings are funded by dues paying members.
We believe this approach gives the Local the resources to sustain, so we can properly represent you. We appreciate your continued support.
I am available for any questions or concerns,
James M. White Sr.
